Winning the battle

Well the battle of order that is.

My home was totally disorganized and verging on chaotic. This was having an effect on us. Stuff was going missing and it was challenging to find it.

Things started getting better after we had a mass clear out last week when we knew that someone was coming around to look at the damp problem and the landlord would be there as well.

Another important moment was when I realized that I would have to maintaining pretty much by myself.

Since then I have been working hard each day to make sure that I keep up the good work with keeping the place clean but also finishing off any things we were not able to declutter last week.

Today I was able to get some work done in our bedroom and I sorted through the photography magazines that I had got and took out anything that I think will be useful for me.

The last room that really needs work on is the kitchen. There is clutter down one side that we did not manage to move last week. The other sides are looking much better but I do have to clean it up after it was used today. I think because it is such a well used room (like the living room) that it will only be ordered with a lot of work to keep it clean)

But the good thing is that all of the clean and dried clothes are put away. I have now found all of my eldest son's school uniform. Socks are in matching pairs and there are a lot of them (I am fighting back against the infamous sock monster)

The main reason why I feel like I am winning the battle was the feeling that I got when walking through the flat tonight. There was such a funky serene feeling from the lack of clutter and just seeing it clean. That and the fact that it is still clean one week after the mass clean up. That has not normally been the case, usually one week after a big clean up the clutter has started to creep back.

I have had to sacrifice the computer though to achieve this. I barely spend any time during the day on it. I am not missing it though, and the gains far outweigh the sacrifice.

Hopefully I have pasted the turning point and I will not go back to a cluttered and chaotic flat. I will then be in position to start teaching the younglings how to keep things clean as well (the are getting old enough that they can start helping out as well)
